Over a hundred years ago, businessmen in Highland, New York harnessed the
water power of the Twaalfskill Creek to operate a sawmill. Situated next to the main rail line leading to the Poughkeepsie
Railroad Bridge, their business flourished, and they added other building materials and hardware to their lumber
business. But many things have changed since then. Electricity replaced water power, and trucks replaced trains.
The railroad line became a rail trail. And as the twentieth century drew to a close, competitors who were more
efficient sealed the fate of many local lumber companies. This one closed in 1995.
But the story has a happy ending. After languishing in disrepair for many years, this complex of five buildings
on three acres came back to life again in 2003 as VINTAGE VILLAGE. Where horse-drawn wagons once unloaded logs
to be cut into lumber, a stone courtyard now beckons visitors to come and relax. The old 4,800 square-foot sawmill
building now houses a multi-dealer ANTIQUE CENTER - the only one in the world with a stream running through it!
But that's just the beginning of your adventure at Vintage Village. There's also VINTAGE TIMES - where American
history comes to life in room-size dioramas depicting a typical family from colonial times to the present. And
TIMELESS TOYS - housing one of the finest collections of vintage toys and dolls. The ARTISTS LOFT is where artists
from the Hudson Valley region display their works. There are bargains to be found in the FURNITURE BARN, which
is full of antiques that may need some restoration. WHISPERS OF JOY is a gift shop that runs the gamut of new,
used, and antique items - snacks too! The TOWN OF LLOYD HISTORICAL PRESERVATION SOCIETY has a display of historical
artifacts from the Hudson Valley. And there's still more . . .
During our first year of operation, we've hosted live concerts, flea markets, holiday festivities, meetings, and
social functions. The Exhibit Center welcomes groups by appointment. There's something for everyone at VINTAGE
VILLAGE, so why not bring the whole family? There is a nominal admission charge to the Exhibit Center. Enjoy everything
else for FREE!

Exhibit Center Admission: Adults $3; Senior Citizens $2.50; Children under
12 $2 (under 5 free).
Exhibit Center open weekends only during Fall 2004. Closed for season after December 19.
